A Wandering Albatross is spreading its wing in the tussock grass of Albatross Island, South Georgia Island.
The Wandering Albatross has the largest wingspan of any living bird, with the average wingspan being 3.1 meters (10.2 ft).
It is on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, mostly because of long line fishing after tuna.

The bird looks like a gull, but is unrelated, and is in fact a petrel. It is a highly pelagic tubenose seabird, feeding on fish, oil or offal.

These large seabirds range widely in the Southern Ocean.
Of the 21 species of albatrosses are 19 threatened with extinction.
