Huge King penguin colonies.
The number of penguins are breathtaking. Walking into the colonies are of cource not allowed, but just standing on the beach is overwhelming.
The sound and smell is unforgettable. |

The King penguin colony at St. Andrews Bay in South Georgia Island is one of the largest and has over 100,000 birds.King penguins eat small fish, mainly lanternfish, and squid and rely less than most Southern Ocean predators on krill and other crustaceans. The colony was counted to only 1100 birds in 1925. That is a remarkable increase in numbers and it is still growing.
