The 200.000 chinstrap penguins breed along the edge of an old caldera. The huge colony is spread over at least a mile and the birds occupying the hilltops as far as you can see.

Beautiful sunsets is said to have inspired to its name. No gold has ever been found.
Gold or not - Gold harbour is well worth a visit. It is one of the most scenic places in South Georgia Island (Just my humble opinion).
You can also anjoy a huge King penguin colony at Gold Harbour (or Harbor), but just a few molting king penguins can be seen on this picture along the lake shore.
