                King penguins have colourful feathers around their necks and heads, with they are  the brightest of all the species of penguin and there is an estimated world population of 2 million breeding pairs (some estimates up to 3.2 million).
                     The King Penguin is the second largest species of penguin at about 90 cm (3 ft) tall and weighing 11 to 16 kg (24 to 35 lb).

                Many baby penguin chicks spend a lot of time begging their 
                    parents (or other adult penguins) for food. Parents penguins can recognize their 
                    young and will only feed their own chicks.
                    Many adults are followed by several chicks at a time, but the babies not belonging to the adults would eventually give up, allowing the parent to then feed the chosen one.

               Adult King penguins (Aptenodytes patagonicus) replace their complete plumage during a 3- to 4-week moulting fast on shore before going back forage at sea for 2-3 weeks restore the energy reserves for reproduction.
                    When they are molting they must stay out of the water to not disrupt their molting phase.

Gold Harbour, South Georgia Island.
Beautiful sunsets is said to have inspired to its name. No gold has ever been found.
Gold or not - Gold harbour is well worth a visit. It  is one of the most scenic places in South Georgia Island (Just my humble opinion).
You can also anjoy a huge King penguin colony at Gold Harbour (or Harbor), but just a few molting king penguins can be seen on this picture along the lake shore.

The Wandering albatross is sometimes called the Snowy Albatross, or White-winged Albatross. The population at South Georgia Island is Decreasing -4% yr mainly due to illegal long line fishing.

But a waste of time - The two youngsters are not ready for mating yet. 
With a wingspan of up to 3.5 m (11.5 ft) the Wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans) has the largest winspan of any living bird.

Bay of Isles used to have two islands open to visit the colonies of breeding wandering albatrosses. Albatross island is now closed and only the small colony at Prion Island is open forvisiting tourists.
Wandering Albatross is listed  as Vulnerable on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) list .
